407 : in Philly

407fixedgear : in Philly from Antimo on Vimeo.

I’m really excited to share this. I think it came out really well and the entire experience was a blast. Philly people keep it tight and watching this footage makes me miss that city. So many good people, oh snap, and so much good food. I’m pretty sure my diet consisted of entirely red meat, TastyKake’s, and birch beer.

The editing process Zack and I have been taking has been kind of a unique approach to me. For the music mix downs we have been digging through tracks and then doing a live DJ recording to sync with the footage. When I say we, I mean Zack has been DJing (& killing it) and I’ve been manning the video. It has been a pretty fun and organic process that we wanted to share. So Check out this link. It’s the track from the mix to ride to, shake you rump to, or just do your damn thang to.

Enjoi!

Summer 2010 is kicking off!

Wow, I haven't been on in quite some time. Really hard to make posts from an iphone due to lack of internet connectivity... I've recently been really busy and have hardly anytime to do anything but work, eat, sleep, ride, and honestly I feel the same goes for some other familiar faces lately! Garret Wade came over last night to shoot some really great photos at Camp Anawanna, which is the Sink or Swim HQ. I haven't had the chance to check Garret's photography out until last night and you should definitely check it out here

hope everyone is well and riding!

cheers,
Furoche

Weekly Trick Ride

I'm starting up a weekly trick ride Wednesday nights. Meet up is at 8:00 at the 711 here. We don't really have a safe haven to ride in that we won't be hassled at, so I figured this would be mobile and hit up spots around town. There hasn't been much forethought put into this other then wanting to spend more time on my bike with friends. So come out and throw down or just hang out.

Info disseminated.

Philly Teaser

407fixedgear : Philly Teaser from Antimo on Vimeo.

Spent some time in Philly over spring break. I didn't just catch up with the family, I got myself up to Water Street Sessions and caught some pretty epic ridding. It took about 8 hours to render all the footage from the camera files to an editable format. More to come, I just have 60GB worth of footage to scrub through.

I kinda forgot/didn't feel like sitting down and looking over the mass that is this footage, until Prolly posted this photo of Tom at Water Street.

HB 971 and what it means to you...

Ben Petersen hit me up with this link on the Commute Orlando blog about House Bill 971. This little doozy would make mandatory bike lane use a provision the Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles bill due to be signed by Gov. Christ. This is disastrous simply because it will force cyclist to use a bike lane and if they dont, it now puts a cyclist caught outside of a bike lane in the position proving their innocence. Studies have proven bike lanes offer a false sense of security and a bicycle works best and is safest when the cyclist behaves as part of traffic. Forcing cyclist on to bike lanes, like the one that exists on Edgewater, exponentially increases the risk of a cyclist getting door jammed causing injuries / fatalities. The language of the bill is also so vaguely worded that it also opens up the potential for abuse by law enforcement. There are tons of striped-off areas of roadways that are not bike lanes at all. But because some believe they are, they expect cyclist to ride in these stretches of road that are usually full of glass and other road debris. We all ready deal with enough misinterpretation of the current law by OPD and other law enforcement agencies, the last thing we need is something that is going to cause even more confusion/friction. Not to mention the bill has the unintended effect of giving motorists another good excuse to harass cyclists who “aren’t where they belong”. This is a lose/lose situation for all...

Some of the other gems in this bill would make it legal for mopeds, golf-carts, motorized scooters and other vehicles to operate on sidewalks and on bike paths. Also included in this bill is a provision to let a 4th time DUI offender get their drivers license back. If this isn't some car centric marginalization of cyclist and pedestrians, I dont know what is...

"Crystal Ruiz-Mills, was struck by a motorist at this past weekends Broward County Critical Mass. She is in the hospital with broken vertebrates and has already had surgery to replace the shattered L1 bone in her back. She is suffering through a lot of pain and discomfort. On top of all that. Crystal has a family. Two sons and a really cool husband, Andy. I have set up a donation through the PayPal link below. We can help them through these tough times. Like most of us, Crystal is not covered under any insurance plan. So anything will help."
