As promised 2010 is bringing some big changes to 407fixedgear; one of the biggest is that I am stepping down as it's main contributor. I will continue to help out in various ways as well continue to work on bike videos but as far as the day to day blog business goes, Blackshaw is the man in charge. Currently I'm being pulled in various directions with the projects I'm involved with which has created a bit of a time crunch. Because of the time constraints, postings have slowed down and its become a bit harder for people to contact me about things. In light of this, I would rather pass on the baton to someone who can be more accessible and have the time to run this as opposed to closing the whole thing down. That person is Blackshaw aka Mr Ace Metric...
Those of you following 407fixedgear from the beginning remember how this blog first came about. Back in 2007 things were just starting to take off here in town and the emerging scene was in need of a place people could check to see what kind of races / bike events were happening in the area. I started the blog in Sept of 2007 in order to fill this need and as a way to help foster the community aspect that later evolved. Blackshaw and Hugs were the first two contributors to jump on board and were instrumental in how this project developed. Over the next 2 years, this little experiment took off in a big way and our audience grew from being a local one to that of a worldwide audience. With the help of several people and their positive attitudes, we helped put Orlando on the map and in some ways set the bar on how bike races / events are done in the state. I'm happy I was able to be a part of this...
I want to thank all of you for supporting the blog and its events in the past. The scene here was at one point one of the best anywhere and while things are in a weird place now, there's no reason why it cant continue to evolve and grow in to something different. But its not going to happen with people sitting around, complaining and talking shit about each other. A community is built on respect and lately, that respect has been missing in so many ways. This is not directed at all of you as the majority of you are stand up folks but if the shoe fits, wear it. To those of you who continue to rep the 407 hard, be safe and I'll see you on the streets!
respect,

I always like checking this site to see what the Orlando players are up to. I'm saddend by this but saw it coming with the space between posts. El Gato Pescasteezie you will be missed. I used to check the Ace Metric blog but stopped because they post up like 2 times a month and then it's only to mention they are closed on a day(weekends) or might open at 4. Surly there is some action happening worth mentioning and someone who wants write about in Orlando. So we(i'm sure i'm not the only one) are little bummed by this. There are other blogs out there where i can get my FIX, but none that cover the 407. It will be missed.
Gus, You're a good man. I'll be looking for your posts, although they will be coming less frequently.
Blackshaw, thanks for keeping things alive... And I'm ready to not just see things stay alive but enter into a new season of growth.
I've really enjoyed meeting so many people I would have never met while riding here in Orlando. Divisions have arisen at times over the last year, but I hope that, as time goes by, we all continue to mature and see our differences move from something that divides us and into something that challenges us to grow.
I've met people that have different political, religious and philosophical views than I, and I've met people that live way different than I do. But one thing is for sure : those differences have helped me ask good questions and find some great answers.
Here's to more riding, more conversation and more friendship.
YEAHHHHHH aka mr. pizza slice
do that shit son!
Thnx for the kind words folks! I really appreciate it!
But yeah, things are stagnant and new growth is needed. Hopefully this year will bring about some change...
BTW, if any of you fancy yourselves writers hit me up.... :)
tbm - good luck in your future my friend........like i've said before i have only met a few of the people involved in the the blog site here and the "scene" around town thru various friends of friends etc,etc....(you know its a small town and alot people know alot of other people..)
im a tad bit older than most of you and have been an avid "road" bicyclsit for many, many years now
every now and then I chime in on here and check things out to see whats going on around town....
I did see alot of the so called "bad mouthing" that was going on and that led up to the "posts needing 2 be approved first" which is kind of shitty in away that it had 2 come to that -but i undersdtand - and im sure you saw them all... (lol- i can only imagine) ..
I have to give you props for taking it all in stride and offering your views in a manner that tried to keep things on the up and up when you could have easily resorted to name calling and bad mouthing right back at them....
I dont believe i have ever met you personaly, but i would sure as hell would wave, give you a nod, or stop to see if you needed any help if you had a a flat or broke down on the bike, as i would for any one of you if i passed you on the streets while riding and thats respect for a fellow bicyclist- no matter what there riding !!!... ...good luck, take care and keep riding safe..... m.p.
