Ace Metric Cat+Comp+Party

Ladies and gentleman in attendance, sponsors, and venues, thank you! Sunday's event went off without a hitch. Here are the results as well as some notes.

Alley Cat:
For an eleven mile race I know it was pretty challenging. Mama Nature helped with some serious wind.

1st Place: Anthony P (Orlando)
2nd Place: Girogio T (Orlando)
3rd Place: Michael Q (Orlando)

1st Female: Jenny W (Miami)

1st Out of Town: Mike P (Ft. Lauderdale)*
*4th Place overall

Trick Comp:

1st Place: Ryan H (Orlando)
2nd Place: Gabe C (Miami)
3rd Place: Ronnie G (Orlando)

Honorable Mention: Mike Lilly (Tallahassee), GL, and Newberry (bank to bank gap and quarter pipe transfer to ditch on a 12 speed was insane!)

After Party:

SKY SIXTY is one of my favorite venues downtown and it was rad to have the place to ourselves. The beer was flowing, TYBO and Kittybat were killin it on the ones and twos, Ben and Brandon were slangin shots and liquor drinks, and I think everyone in the club got a little tipsy. Open air on the rooftop, beautiful Florida Autumn weather, good tunes, good vibes, and good folks all added up to the perfect ending to the day. Oh yeah, did I mention the hour long raffle. Prizes a plenty but the race winner, Anthony P, walked away with the grand prize, the front track Aerospoke wheel.

*Johnny, Sarah, and anyone who took photos, please send me links! Thanks!

A big thank you!

To all those that came out and raced, tricked, watched, cheered on and helped during yesterdays race, trick contest and after party. The support was truly appreciated and its good to see everyone come together and have a good time doing something we all love. Hang tight, Blackshaw will be posting the results of the Race and Trick Comp along with other relevant information from yesterdays proceedings. Also, if you have any pictures from yesterday, hit us up and we'll link to them. Lets keep this positive momentum going!

BTW, I heard a lot of crazy talk last night about the judging at the Trick Comp; some of it damn near bordered on conspiracy theory shit. To shed a little light on how we judged this thing, variety, consistency & originality were the 3 main things we looked at. This isn't anything different than what most skate / bmx contests take in to consideration when judging a contest. There was a lot of impressive tricks thrown around yesterday but part of the scoring also has to take in to consideration whether or not the person lands the trick. In the end, the decision came down to who had original lines, the variety of tricks they did and how consistently they landed what they tried. The final decision was a very tough one due to the different styles the top 4 showed but in the end we felt our decision was the just one based on the criteria we worked with. This doesn't mean one style is better than the other but rather on this day, luck of the draw had one person riding better overall. Feel free to discuss this with me next time you see me out. I'm more than down to talk about how I scored it and how I came to my final decision on the top 3. And if we disagree; fuck it, then we'll agree to disagree and have a beer in the process...

Keep pedalin'!

STEPPIN' IT UP IN THE SUNSHINE STATE!

I'll be getting a couple sequence shots emailed to me later this afternoon but I figured i'd post a few before I left to go out of town. A few of us got together at MESH skatepark to try something new and ended up having a blast. Hope to see some of you every wednesday till the park closes its door for good at the end of the month. It's been a wonderful park to skaters, and bike kids alike... so lets enjoy it while we can. Cheers!!!!

Grand Prize for Sunday's Raffle...

1 Areospoke Front Track Wheel.

Yep, that's right. Did I mention that raffle tickets are only $2? There will be many other awesome prizes to be raffled off. Don't sleep.

Bicycle Defense Kit

Forwarded to me by a friend, kind of funny actually. Contains a few of the following "goodies":
  • Issue "citizen citations" with official-ish tickets.
  • Label offending vehicles with an "I was a jerk to a cyclist" sticker.
  • Introduce the risk of paint damage with a Jolly Rancher.
  • Make cars stink worse than their exhaust with a carefully-placed stink bomb.

And it all fits in an Altoids can. Get a full run down on the kit here.
