King of Evil3 results...

King of Evil3 was a brutal one. A 14 mile race around St. Pete with 7 checkpoints-four were circuit races on mostly brick roads, two were cyclo, cross themed and the seventh was a physical fitness challenge. Tons of volunteers were out keeping tabs on the racers to be certain all checkpoints were completed. Several racers were disqualified for not completing checkpoints and apparently Michael Davis and Mike Weimar will be re-running the race just for fun and bragging rights at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28th. Check out FLfixed for more info. Big thanks to Corey and crew for a good time. Big ups to our boy Danny who was first out-of-town and placed 7th overall the night after winning round5 of the Quick and the Dead Sprints back home!

Seventy-two people registered and the top 20 finishers were:

1) Elizabeth Hill (first female- yes, she finished before Pete)
2) Pete Young (first guy)
3) Andrew Bridgman (second guy)
4) Johnnie Thomas (third guy)
5) Taylor Norton
6) John Howart (first newbie guy)
7) Danny Boden(first out-of-town Orlando represent!)
8) Adam Duff
9) Austin Joiner
10) Anthony Positano
11) Josh Hood
12) Jen Norris (second female)
13) Bailey Anders
14) Josh Brown
15) Kyle Noonan
16) Chris Wilfong
17) Pete Abrami
18) Jake Hill
19) Bryan McGuire
20) Kristin Johnson (third girl, first newbie girl, furthest out of town- Wash. D.C.)

**Results from Fridays AfterMass trick jam and Round5 of the Quick and the Dead Sprint Series will be posted later, with an update on the Series overall standings...**

Danny took the sprints this time around and JP from Tampa took the trick jam. People where going big yesterday @ the trick jam but consistency is what wins these things... ;)

Central Florida ACLU Cyclists' Forum, July 8th 2009

midnightridazz.com

Lindy Shepherd from the Orlando Weekly forwarded this info along about a question and answer forum organized by the Central Florida ACLU to inform bicyclists of their legal rights. It's going to be held at the Orlando Public Library Cypress Room on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 from 6:30-8pm. According to the Facebook event page, this forum will answer any questions cyclists may have about the legalities of operating a bicycle on the road as well as what your rights are if stopped by the police while riding a bike.

Trick Jam / Sprint Series this month

This month after Critical Mass Anthony and Hood are throwing another Trick Jam / Sprints session this Friday. Since King of Evil is this Saturday, they have decided to move things up a day in order for everyone to be able to make both events. Trick Jam is at the Stardust Parking lot after the CM ride and the Sprints will be later at a yet to be announced location. I believe there will be prizes for both events. More info coming shortly, I just wanted to get the word out early...

Good Samaritan Bizness

I'm not an advocate of bike lanes (plenty of bike lanes out there, they are called roads but I digress) but I thought this was pretty cool and wanted to share...

Jonathan is trying to get a few volunteers together to clean up a notoriously dirty bike lane on Livingston between Bumby and Hampton. As long as I can remember, that stretch on Livingston is always trashed with all kinds of road debris making the bike lane completely unusable. What usually happens is that most people either tend to avoid that stretch or are forced to ride on the street with traffic (which can be intimidating for some). Instead of letting a perfectly good bike lane go to waste while waiting around for the city to do something about it, he is organizing a crew to get that stretch cleaned up. Dope huh?

Anyways, if you're interested in helping out, check out the thread over on IBOT for meet up time and information...

Best of Orlando 2009...

Take a break, use up some of your employers bandwidth and get your vote in for some of the people, places and things you like about the 407. Not meant to be a plug but places like Ace Metric, Kyles Bike Shop, Etoile, Bold Hype, Stardust, Ethos, Black Bean Deli, Vinyl Richies, Covert, Beta and all the rest make this place just a little more bearable. Take the time to vote and show your support for local businesses...

I still dunno how I feel about these frames (I'm skeptical of a lot of Origin 8 products) but this build looks pretty damn nice...

Critical Mass & the NYPD; the saga continues

An excerpt from Bike Blog NYC article.

Its been a fairly classic pattern on the critical mass rides. Rank and file officers are ordered in pairs by a white shirted Lieutenants to ticket riders for disobeying traffic laws when they are riding in group less then 30. These violations include not having proper lighting, not stopping at red lights and not riding in bike lanes. When the individual riders comply with the traffic laws and tell the officers they are not breaking the law, the officers resort to what I like to call: “making shit up.” Cyclists are then given summons for failing to ride to the right, which is not illegal. When cyclists decide to ride on greenways designed for bicycles and pedestrain traffic and not motor vehicles…the police violate this space and follow the riders on the paths which are depicted in the video.

If this isn’t harassment, then what is?
