More bikes stolen

"Both my bike and my girlfriends bike were stolen this past week. They were both single speed conversions using singleators and both had riser bars.
Mine was a Red Felt S22 covered in various bike stickers, with felt carbon fork, easton bars, profile stem, ultegra cranks, mavic cosmic wheels with no stickers, yellow flite gel saddle and pink crankbrothers candy pedals.
Hers is a Silver Giant TCR 1 with matching aero carbon fork, black bars and stem, a wtb saddle, felt aero seatpost, easton/velomax wheels with no stickers, stripped dura ace cranks, crankbrothers candy pedals.
If you have seen either of these or have any info please call me at 321.246.0969 or email bforshee402@yahoo.com
Any help would be greatly appreciated and rewarded."

weekend round up

In case you have been living under a rock for the better part of 09, Call To Cranks is going down this weekend. I know a good sized group from Orlando is down there, be safe and have fun! I want to hear about all the shenanigans once you guys get back. There is also a Death Pedal Showing tonight as well so in case you missed it last night, here's your opportunity to check it out...

For those of you in town tonight, make sure you check this out. It's going down at Bold Hype and some of the feedback I've heard regarding the the work is really good. So if you have nothing going on tonight, hit it up!
And lastly, based on a few questions I got last night I need to address the lag in comments showing up on the blog. Due to a troll that fears things he can't quite understand, I've had to enable the moderate comments function on the blog. This is the first time in our almost 2 years of being in existence that we have had to do this. We have always operated under the concept of unlimited free speech and would let anyone comment at will. But because of this asshole, we now have had to institute this functionality in order to make sure the prejudices of this person don't spoil the user experience. In essence, you can still comment anonymously, but the rub is that I (or one of the other contributors) will have to approve the comments before they show up on the blog. So what's the guideline you may ask?
The guideline is simple really; post an intelligent comment and it gets approved. Post something hateful, racist, homophobic or sexist and it gets denied.
Dont get it twisted, you don't have to kiss our collective ass and agree with everything we say; differing points of view are always welcome here. But if you resort to the kind of behavior most middle school kids use in order to articulate a point then your diatribe gets no play. Again, this decision was forced upon us by the actions of one particular ass-hat and his inability to come to terms with things he doesn't quite understand. The funny things is I now know who he is and he doesn't even come close to representing the scene he claims to be a part of. It's just a pathetic attempt to force his prejudices on everyone while trying to start some drama where none exists. I'm extremely tempted to "out" his stupid ass but instead, I'm going to take the high road and let him wallow in his own ignorance. Just bear with us as there will now be a small lag from when you post your comment to when they actually appear...
Ride hard, live life and enjoy the weekend!

Orlando Cyclists...
Zach told me a little about this project and of the post on Pedal Consumption and when I actually saw some of the pictures, I was floored! An artist statement of sorts taken from the photographers flicker feed:
"A preview of a 4x5 editorial series of local cyclist in Orlando. I hope to premiere this at a local restaurant in the area. They frequent this restaurant often and I think it would be great to bring them all together one last time. Though, I still feel this project is ongoing and I look forward to who I meet next."
Please keep us in the loop, would love to see how this project progresses...

The 411 for Death Pedal tonight

Festivities kick off @ 9pm, we plan on having some bike games / trick jam in the Stardust parking lot weather permitting. DJ Furoche will be working the wheels of steel, Stardust bar will be open and the screening starts at 11pm. We will have stuff to give out courtesy of Franco Shade, Beta and Ace Metric as well as a couple of Death Pedal t-shirts and stickers. We'll do a give away of sorts but you can score one as well if you impress me with some kind of trick; bike trick or a stupid human trick doesn't really matter...

Hope to see you all out, it should be quite a fun time.

Volume News

I got en email from Volume today with an update on the new fork, the 3rd generation Cutter, 27.2 pivotal seatposts, and the Krull spider. All items are due to ship to your local bike shop in a week or so.
The "Fu Manchu" forks (new name, apparently no one liked "Bundchen Legs") are on their way and will be available in both 1" and 1 1/8". The fork will retail at about $165.
3rd Generation Cutters will feature a few improvements/changes based on feedback regarding the 2nd generation. Raised logo on the head tube, longer track ends (dropouts), and pinched chain stays for more tire clearance (they say 28c+).
Volume is the first company that I know of making a pivotal seatpost in 27.2. They'll be available in black, white, and polished and retail at about $22.
The brand new "Krull" Spider will retail at about $65. The jury is still out on whether or not the splined bmx spindle crank set ups hold up to fixed gear abuse over time. I know that there are a few riders out there using similar drivetrains but, I've read about some problems they've encountered.
Overall, it's good to see companies that have the means to do intelligent R&D are doing it and creating stronger components where need be.
*Cutter owners: If you don't already know, Volume is taking photo submissions for a contest in which the winner will recieve a new "Fu Manchu" fork. Deadline 5/31.

Be on the lookout for Rapevans bike!

Last night the laundry door over at Mike & Nicole's house was kicked in while they where out. It was obvious what they where after (the bikes) and while his Blue Jury was stolen, the good news is they didn't get his Falcon or his Guerciotti.
Description of the bike as posted by Mike over on IBOT:
50cm Cobalt Blue Jury track frame
fork was a black kona project 2
Black DMR downhill chunky as Fuck stem...with a sweet skull
Black answer alumalite bars with ODI locking grips
Black cr18s laced to black formulas
Black and blue seat
There is a mount on the seatpost for a light, a strap on the bars for the same.
This is a very unique bike (I dunno of anyone with a similar bike here in town) and a reward is being offered for the return, recovery, or any information leading to the recovery of said bike. If anyone sees or knows of anything, post a reply on this IBOT thread...

One Fine Day In Seoul
One Fine Day _ in seoul from inkon on Vimeo.
I want to visit Seoul again, like in a really bad way. My last visit was in Dec 2003 and even though it was crazy cold, I still enjoyed my stay. I learned a lot about the country and it's history thanks to my counter parts at Samsung and because of this, I had an amazing opportunity to better understand the people and their customs. One of my favorite memories was eating a Cheese Ramen, covered in hot pepper powder with a side of fried chicken gizzards at a small Ramen hut. Again it was freezing cold out but the "poktanjus" we kept drinking (shot of soju dropped in to a draft beer) kept us nice and warm...
Anyways, enjoy this very well made video. These guys are having a lot of fun which in turn got me thinking about what a wonderful city Seoul is...

pulling at my heart strings

(image leeched off here)
Having owned a PK Ripper when I was young, I immediately gravitated to this build. Call it an old man reminiscing but damn I have some good memories of me on that bike. I have yet to see a full components list but based on the pictures on this blog, it looks like there are some Sugino parts on it. If such a thing exists (components list), hit me up with a link...
For those of you not up on this DC Shoes / SE Bikes collaboration, peep here, here and here...

grainy iPhone pics from last night

Went riding with Frazier, Preston and Co last night, I wanted to check this spot out for a possible taping session. RyanFromDeland told me about a little while back and besides having a really nice view, it has some nice shit to ride. Had a great time last night and finished it off with a SoCo and lime shot courtesy of PDiddles! BTW, a huge shout out / props / thank you to Jessie (Preston's better half)! You rule and we really appreciated the assist with the tire pump! :)
Enjoy this video. Nothing to do with bikes but it is by far the best Bollywood dance scene I've seen in a hot minute...

update on H Plus Son rim failure

“ Over the past few months I have received many questions regarding the one very well publicized rim fail in November of 2008. This is what has been posted (with the help of some photoshoping) on the internet as the “taco rim”. After receiving the rim from the customer we were able to run a material test and the results showed that everything was normal. In the wake of this incident and after selling H Plus Son rims for about 10 months now, we have only ever received this one complaint and request for the rim to be replaced under warranty (which of course we did). After all these months, it is safe to say that this was indeed an isolated incident... "

random bits for the weekend

Here's a short video Andrew put together. What I love about it (besides him chugging hipster ketchup and beer) is that it was all shot with a Flip Mino HD camera.
The Photobooth from Curry on Vimeo.
Curry is going to be helping me out with a video project I want to debut @ Orlando Bike Weekend 3. Hang tight for teasers...
On the openings tip, Stardust is celebrating the opening of their new bar tonight. It looks awesome and its hard to imagine the place without it now. Anyone interested in meeting up and having a few tonight, hit me up on the hotline. It's close to the house so the ride home is idiot proof...
Last but not least, I thought this shit was funny:
Enjoi the weekend! :)
