Ace Metric

Slowly but surely, I've been bulking up the inventory here at the shop. Lots of new bits are coming in, some of which you see here.

Cog issue 5 as well as the photo book.

Burro Messenger back pack.

Also got a shit ton of the new Soma saddles: Okami, Ta-Bo, and the limited edition Ensho glitter models. Come on in and check out the new jams. Free kiss on the cheek with every purchase.

many of you asked...

this is what my new bought hed jet 90 looks like after i got hit on december 21st.

i watched the wheel taco and then bend back into shape like nothing happened. all the nipples/spokes tore out of the rim. surprisingly the tire still has air in it. all in all. hed makes tough wheels. no wonder they're expensive.

Fix Push 2, the sequel...

In case you didn't see it on Zlog, the sequel is coming. Here's the original in case you have no clue what this is about... :)

Fun with Polarize...

You guys know I love to push media creation with my iPhone and a cool little free app a friend of mine clued me in to has been getting heavy use recently. The name of the app is Polarize and it essentially turns your iPhone camera in to a Polaroid camera. It does all sorts of neat things with color and you can tag it with up to 14 characters. While it doesn't give you the capability to modify the colors / Polaroid effect, some of the results I have gotten have been pretty cool. Here's an example of a new spot I was scouting out yesterday for a future shoot. The old school skaters / BMX crew will recognize this place no doubt... :)

A few pictures from last night...

Thanks Metha!

Thanks to all that came out last night!

shitty iPhone pic from where I was standing

The vibe was thick and it was standing room only last night! From all the feedback I'm getting, everyone had a blast and it was awesome to hear so many cheers and see all the smiles as everyone watched the film. Colin and Colby created a solid piece of work with this film, I'm glad those that made it got to see the fruit of their creative endeavors...

Once again I want to say thanks for the support, it was well worth the effort we put in to this event. I couldn't have done it without the help of Patrick from Beta, Blackshaw @ Ace Metric and of course, the notorious POP OFF Crew. Everyone put their all in to this event and it showed!

More pictures coming shortly. If you have any from last night, hit me up and I'll post a link to the flickr account. Also, here's some footage of the hijinks that went down on Orange ave after the screening courtesy of Todd (aka Stay Gold)..

Milk District Party - 1.17.09

From IBOT:

Location: Milk District (The spot on robinson behind T.G. Lee, with Beta/Covert/Etoile etc.) - where most races here end

Time: Saturday, January 17th // 12NOON-7PM

What?: This is going to be a cool fun day to hang out. Firstly, Beta, Covert and Etoile are all having sales on their respective wares, There will be FREE vegan hot dogs provided by Aaron, the GRAND OPENING of both, ETOILE's new location (in the front of the building) and a NEW RECORD STORE called WIGGLY WORLD in the spot behind - where Etoile used to be.

This will functionally be the first fundraiser in a series of many to get the co-op going. Etoile has offered us a spot to table to tell people about the project, as well as to solicit donations. There are a couple plans working themselves out, but it looks like we'll have tools/bike repair, a donation jar, a "diorama," and buttons for sale. Etoile is also donating 10% of their sales to the project as well as having, on their own counter, a donation jar. Let's make this a strong start to a great project! Come out, hang out, eat some vegan hot dogs, buy some clothes or skateboards or records, and we'll help this community grow together.

Sounds like a lot of fun and a great way to support local shops in this shitty economy! Peep the full thread on IBOT or check out the Orlando Bicycle Collective Blog for more info...

A ride in the big apple...

NYC Fixed Gear Ride from jmartinez on Vimeo.

caught myself turning imaginary handlebars at a few points...

goat hoof hand...

I'm starting to get the hang of wheelies now and got a little to over confident with them while riding home yesterday. Started riding one pretty fast, got faster as i kept it going and then; end result consisted of me not being able to run it out when i had to eject which resulted in me over extending these two fingers when i hit the ground. I thought they where broken for a second but turns out it's just a bad case of jammed fingers so I'll be wearing this for about a week.

To quote a line from the song ace of spades:
If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man
You win some, lose some, it's all the same to me...

I have two freelance design projects I'm wrapping up so this is going to make working on them interesting...

I still think they are fun as hell though! :)

What's cooking @ Beta...

Was chatting with Patrick from Beta the other day about Incase products (specifically some of their bags) and turns out he is actually all ready carrying quite a few of their products now. This is good simply because every time I needed something by Incase, I either had to trek out to the Apple Store out at Millenia Mall or order it online. I snapped a few pictures of some of the goodies he had and while I was there, I went ahead and scored a black case for my Macbook Pro...

Here's a few pictures:

A cheap shot in the kick stand?

So it seems the Orlando Weekly has decided to give us all a collective cheap shot in their latest issue...
A Cheap Shot in the kickstand to the inexplicable fixed-gear bike (fixies!) trend that saw hipsters tumbling out of their usual vehicles and onto the downtown streets, without brakes. It’s yet another example of a trickle-down fad gone horribly awry when applied to the City Beautiful, as the sorta- hippie bicycle club practicality – they’re easier to climb hills on out West – met the relative flats of Central Florida more as a status symbol (“I never bathe!”) than a need. Playing cards in the spokes, naturally, are encouraged.

Before you start, I know the intent of the cover story as I've enjoyed the cheap shots issue in the past but keep in mind good satire depends on one very important factor; witty writing. Don't get me wrong, I do respect their coverage on local issues such as the ill thought out venues plan and the overall waste and incompetence of our local politicians but honestly, this came off like they where scrapping the barrel for something to take a cheap shot on. Talk about making broad assumptions about an entire community. I could go on a rant about how many of us actually use these bikes as a main form of transportation and so forth but why bother? The rants been beat to death all ready...

I expect this kind of shenanigans from the Sentinel but from the Weekely? Come on guys, you're better than this... :)

bike polo 4 dummies

Hey shredators.
So I know this is "407 fixed" and not "954 fixed," but I thought I'd give you an idea of what goes on in south florida on polo nights. There is a super sweet hockey rink that we play on, and I think my elbows have fiberglass permanently embedded in them, but when in Rome.
Ah, Rome.
I miss you all like the dickens, seriously. Sick trick video at Howard Middle.
Thank you, I love you and good night.

Throwing down the gauntlet...

nb - Keo Spin 1440° from nb on Vimeo.

Who is going to be the first one to nail one of these? Jessie? Blackshaw? Frazier? Ryan?

Three...

Three from tbm on Vimeo.

This is another experiment I worked on last week.

I've been teaching myself Final Cut Pro and some of the tools the application has. I've also been using Color on a very rudimentary level in order to standardize color in my video compositions as well as trying to use it to affect the mood / aesthetic qualities of the project. Since we had no one to operate the camera, we just set it down in a few spots and tried to stay in frame as much as we could. There are a few things I am not happy with in terms of shots / lighting that I plan on addressing in the future. Just remember this is a learning process for me and it will get better. As you can plainly see, this was heavily inspired by Colin and Colbys work (Macaframa) as I am a huge fan of what they do...

Happy New Year!

I know things have been slow the past few days but keep it locked, we're still on the job. I've been sick the past week and a half which impacted a few things but I've stayed some what productive by learning a few new apps and learning a few of the seldom used features my camera has. I'm putting the finishing touches on a couple of things I started this week which I should be posting in the next day or so...

Until then, ez!
