also, im doing somewhat better. but only as much as a broken leg will let me. ride your bikes hard for me, i feel for all of you who have ever had to go through this. i got the B.E.E.R fund check today and all of you really helped me out. thank you so much, my gratitude isn't even enough. thank you friends.
Anyone get them yet? I've never been a fan of plastic but from what I hear these joints are durable and pretty comfortable. The plastic ones come in black and white and they also make a set in silver metal. If you own a pair, hit us in the comments as I'm interested in peoples opinions of them...
You can get them straight from starfuckers or check out this thread on trick track. Board member iansmash bought a few of them and he's selling them to interested parties...
still down with an upper respiratory infection. Figures that I go a year and a half without getting sick and as soon as I go on vacation, this happens. On the plus side I finally got my h+son wheel built out and I must say, it looks dope.
In the meantime, here's a few videos to tide you over...
BTW, I wasn't around for last months CM but I heard it was chaos for all intensive purposes. Apparently so did a few of the people over at the chain gang. Interesting read, especially the comments...
Once again, just something to think about on todays ride...
Yet another example of how Tampa / St Pete sets the bar (and in particular Michael from 66 fixed). The Bicycle Emergency Economical Relief Fund was started as a way of helping out cyclists that get FUBAR'ed in some way, shape or form. Currently they are raising money to help cover Zach's rent on Jan 1st. The goal is $400 so lets see if we can help a brotha out...
I know things are tight but I would hope that everyone can at least come up with $5 to help out. They have a paypal account set up to collect funds via the web but you can also mail the money directly to Michael @ 66 Fixed.

Give Zach a call or drop him a text. Spoke to him this morning and the guy is feeling really low and could stand to hear some friendly voices. His life has been massively impacted because of the careless actions of... (see comments below)
To the people in St Pete that have taken care Zach since the accident, we truly appreciate it. You guys always continue to amaze us not only with your solid bike community but with the overall love you show us all. At the risk of getting "emo" here, there really is a brotherhood between our two cities and the recent outpouring of support with Julius and now Zach, really speaks volumes about you all...
EDIT 12-25-08 In the interest of fairness and at the request of someone close to this incident, I have stricken the earlier comments I made regarding the individual responsible for the accident. This has become a major point of contention recently and I'm going to let the law and the lawyers figure this out. Don't get it twisted; I don't regret what I said and still stand by my words. But I'm also enough of an adult to realize that incendiary comments don't do anything to get to the truth of the matter. I just hope all the people involved with this f**ked up incident have learned a valuable life lesson from all of this...
The Nutcracker and A Miracle on 34th St. presented by The Skirts!
Two races, one location
The Nutcracker will be the final FFGPS race of the year while A Miracle on 34th St. will be a shorter/ fun race presented by St. Petersburg's own all-female cycling team, The Skirts. Polo and Trick comp after the race. More information to come, keep checking the thread on FLFixed for more race info...
Once again, Howard 8pm. We might hit up a few other spots as well depending on how things go. I believe some people might get their polo on but I'm not too sure about that...
Tuesday turned out to be productive so lets keep the momentum rolling!
After riding RyanfromDelands bike on Sunday, I wanted to try out some BMX bars. So far I'm having mixed reactions to them. On one hand I like how my center of gravity has changed and facilitated a few tricks but at the same time barspins have become a bit more painful (I've hit my knee a few times in the process due to the width). I think someone taller would have no issues but I'm afraid these are too wide for me and my current setup.
I'm going to ride them for a few before I decide whether or not I'm reverting back to my old risers. And no I don't want to hear about how "weird" it looks... :)
Yabai has been busy recently and this is one of their gnarly ass choppers to come out of their weekly builds. This is the one Jon Beard is riding and RyanfromDeland has one as well. All of these are made from reclaimed bike parts scavenged from their weekly dumpster dives...
Check out the Fixed Gear gallery entry here and the Yabai blog entry here...
Chris just got his ride yanked, description as follows:
black generic track frame sugino crankset cream weinman rim in the back polished nitto risers babyblue aerospoke.
will post a picture as soon as he sends one. Also, Tyson got his bike stolen as well from in front of Hudges house. All I have on this one is that it's a mid 80's maroon Nishiki. If you have a picture, send it on over and I'll add it to the post...

The song is obvious but it works on so many levels... :)
A big thanks to all who raced and a real big thank you to the volunteers who worked the check points. Even with Goldsprints canceling on us at the last minute, things still went off on Saturday...
BTW, Bike Polo was off the chain yesterday! Good call on the change of venue Pete. As mentioned it was held in the park across the street from the Citrus Bowl. There was a live dj spinning some wicked old school hip hop and an RV selling food and beer the entire time. The locals where in to it and a few where even betting on the outcomes of the games. A few of us got our trick on on the basketball court, good times where had by all...
Hang tight, metha will be posting the results real soon...
It's now going to be at Lorna Doone Park, across the street from the citrus bowl. The park is located on Church St (west of Orange Blossom Trail) between Nashville Ave and Rio Grande Ave. Just look for team Tampa's truck and you wont miss it...

i met this kid from Michigan coming off the train today who came down (a little early) for OBW II. He needs a place to stay. email ace.metric@gmail.com if you can help.
A few of us are meeting up at Howard 3pm this afternoon for a quick session. From there we're going to hit a few more spots downtown and perhaps by the train station / ORMC area. Meet up with us if your so inclined...
If you're interested in helping run a checkpoint for next Saturdays Alley Cat, contact Metha via email or at registration. We could use some people to help out. I think he said something about free entry to the premieres for those that help as well as a few other goodies...
Edit 12.06.08 -- 5:56pm Actually Nick Mandino is in charge of organizing the checkpoint volunteers for the race. Drop him an email at n.mandino@gmail.com or give him a call on the mandingo hotline if you're interested in helping out...
I've been monitoring the blog stats on Google Analytics for the last 6 months and our traffic has shot up pretty steadily in the last 3. Last month we had an increase in traffic of 23.08% and we are now clocking in for this current month at a healthy 24.39%. While the majority of our traffic is from the Florida area; visitors from California (San Fran, L.A. San Diego), New York (NYC Area), Oregon (Portland), Washington (Seattle), Georgia (Atlanta metro area), Texas (Austin & Houston) and Colorado (Denver) are also checking out our state in good sized numbers. This is also in addition to the international traffic (Canada, UK, France, Germany, Japan Australia and Taiwan) we get on a monthly basis...
From the crew here at 407fixedgear.com, we truly appreciate the support we get from everyone that visits us. This blog was started as a communication hub for all the people that ride fixed/single speed in the area. When I created this blogger account, I honestly thought it would be a local site and would maybe be used by a few web heads that ride here in town. During the past year, we have seen the blog and our community grow and all of us are amazed at how this little experiment in social networking has manifested itself. I truly thank all of you that take the time to check us out on a daily basis...
Here's to 2009 being another bangin' year for the central Florida bike community and 407fixedgear.com! I also want to give a shout out to all other blogs that refer traffic to us. If there's anything you ever need, get at me and I'll get you sorted...

Sunday All-Florida Bike Polo Tournament [3v3] BBQ/Cookout
$3/team polo registration. There should be food and possibly free beer at the tournament alongside various bike games. We are in the process of finalizing the locale for the Polo Tournament (Festival Bay, Langford, Delaney), but we're still open to suggestions. Hit us up in the comments section if you have a good spot you know of.
There is also a keg party in the works for Friday night for those intrepid souls who want to start off early. I will post more info on that once it gets finalized...
EDIT 12.01.08 Polo Tournament will be held at Langford Park. Click on the image below to see the battle field!
