Bike Polo in O-town...

Some bike polo games went down this weekend and I hear it was a lot of fun. I got rained out headed down there both times (last time I had a hell of a scare because my phone got soaking wet in route to Howard) and wasn't able to make it out either time. It's becoming a twice a week thing now with meet up at Howard Middle School on Sunday and Wednesdays @ 7pm...

Check out the IBOT Post for more info...

Check this thread...

Carol is getting together an article for Cog magazine and she is asking for photo submissions from all across the state. The article is chronicling the Florida Fixed scene so contact her with any submissions you may have. I could see some of the CM pics being great submissions for something like this...

Yard Sale

Tomorrow (sunday june 29th)
there will be a yard sale at the whaley house
712 South Summerlin Ave in downtown orlando

2 complete bikes (1 single speed and 1 road bike) are for sale and a bunch of handlebars and weird things.
just in case someone is looking for a bike or knows somebody that needs one.
come hang-a-lang. it's fungalunga time!

sponsored by venom's co-op

Those games of foot down where epic...

damn dirty apes!

As in Charleston Heston discovering he was on earth the entire time on Planet of the Apes epic... Bent rims, karate kicks, boiled peanuts & beer; the shit resembled a wrestling match towards the end. A great time was had by all... :)

On another note, I just received my hip pack from ryan from deland and it looks pretty f'ing nice. I'll post a review in a couple of days with some pictures...

Critical Mass this month...

So the plan this month was to have Critical Mass end at a new location where the usual post ride festivities would take place. Because of a series of complications that have popped up, this plan has been scrapped for this months CM ride. This kind of sucks as I was looking forward to hearing the scheduled band play...

So this is where all of you come in. As many of you know we have been ending the CM rides at Retro for the last 4 months or so but quite a few people have expressed interest in changing it up a bit. Since the original plan is not going to work out, Nick and a few others involved with organizing the CM rides have asked me to make a post soliciting your feedback on where the new end point should be this month. In the past it has been Stardust (which I'm a big fan of since their parking lot is great for tricks/foot down bizness not to mention their great beer and wine selection is always a plus on a hot summers day) but pretty much any spot is open for consideration at this point. I think the only requirement is that peeps be able to purchase a tasty beverage once the ride ends...

Please post in the comments section any suggestions you may have regarding this months end point. Any and all feedback is welcomed...

My vote is to end it at Venoms Co-op! :)

my yet another "nothing to do with bikes" post.....

I can't stand Chris Matthews but I love a good call out when I see it. This video here is a great example of why the political discourse in this country just flat out sucks at times. It nothing but emotionally based arguments centered around antagonistic talking points peppered with emotionally charged rhetoric. The entire time the discussion never truly examines the greater philosophical contexts of the positions they advocate / argue against. This dumb ass pundit in question didn't even know what the hell Neville Chamberlain did to qualify as appeasement in the first place! But hey, it makes for a hell of a big sounding word; thus making you sound like you know some shit when regurgitating your 20 second rehearsed sound bite on tv...

To keep this somewhat bike related, I'm really feeling these macaframa teaser vids; they just look nice and match up with consistent style he has defined. That and I'm trying to get out and ride after work today as long as the rain holds out... :)

macaframa hype

those guys are relesing teasers every Monday til the vid drops. here's today's:

Macaframa from MACAFRAMA on Vimeo.

Ladies, want to get your speed on?

Melissa over at IBOT has been trying to get a ride organized specifically for ladies that would love to ride at a faster pace but feel they can't keep up with the hustle crew. Well after much back and forth, the ladies are finally ready to get this thing rolling starting on July 1st! Keep in mind this is not a group ride per se but rather a variation of the BCH ride that goes down on Tuesday nights; so the purpose here is to step it up and ride at a faster pace. Not only is this a great opportunity to meet other female riders in town but this is also a good way to work on getting a faster overall pace. So stretch out those hamstrings, get some new batteries on your bike lights and get ready to see the Orlando metroplex at night!

The official start date of this ride is scheduled for July 1st and the meet up point is at Stardust at 8:15. The ride will break out at 8:30-ish or so and will take a different route than BCH does even though the end point will be the same. If you have any questions about this ride, hit us up via the comments secton or head over to the IBOT Forums and check out the girls, girls, girls thread....

FLFixed.com Photo Contest

(tbm, iron maiden & budweiser; a classic combination)

Todd and the folks at FlFixed.com have a contest going which sounds like a lot of fun. I know quite a few of us over here dabble with photography so I wanted to pass this info on. From the thread over at FlFixed:

"We’ve wanted to do this for a while and we’re finally ready to do so. This first contest will be based on your photo taking ability and/or creativity. Take a picture of yourself and your bicycle (or have someone take it for you). Be creative, use interesting locations around FL, use Photoshop, whatever… go crazy with it. Regardless if the picture consists of just you and your bike, an Alligator eating you and your bike, or you on your bike doing a one-footed-no-hands track stand on top of an alligator… take the picture!"

Check out the thread for more info on the rules & prizes. Not a member of the forum, then what the hell are you waiting for? Get sorted!

if you haven't already...

read today's bikesnobnyc post.

if you are out there having fun it really doesn't matter what you ride, how much you ride, or what other people think.

if you ride every day, be nice to the ones who don't; and if you don't ride everyday don't let people who do give you shit.

Watch out folks, Johnny Law is on the prowl....

Just spoke to Greg (you all know him, black & red bianchi) and he just told me that he recieved a $118 ticket for running a red light! And this wasn't for blatantly running the light like some of us are prone to do, but rather he slowed down, saw no vehicles coming and then proceeded to ride through the intersection. Once he cleared it, that was when OPD rode up beside him and told him to pull over. In addition to this, the police officer in questioned threatened to take him to jail if he didn't show him his ID. This is the second incident I've heard of this week so it would appear that OPD is enforcing traffic laws as they pertain to cyclists (albeit selectively)...

[steps on soap box] Now if they only took the same militant approach with aggressive drivers then things might actually turn around. Selective enforcement of the laws does nothing to address the real situation; which IMO is how aggressive drivers are around here and the lack of respect many of them have for cyclists. Not trying to justify my behavior but aggressive drivers are the reason I tend to be aggressive when I ride. As I've mentioned before, it's a pragmatic approach to the environment I'm forced to ride in... [steps off soap box]

Be safe out there and if you're going to "mash through intersections", be ready to deal with the cause and effect this will undoubtedly bring. Make sure you understand the rules of the road in addition to your basic civil rights. They might just come in handy...

Transient Bags: Slammin!

I miss my FL, but I made some new friends here in L.A. It made this place a little less disgusting. Like a gleaming, wet booger that you secretly enjoy instead of a crusty, dried brown one that you wipe on your friend's back. One of my new friends is Alex. And Alex makes some awesome bike hip bags through his D.I.Y. business, Transient Bags Co.

These sick puppies can also be custom made and done wholesale.

I've had a bike hip bag for about 7 months and it has been my best friend. The transient bags are a perfect size for a hands-free, light load (cell phone, cable lock, mooncup, sharpies, condoms, flask, smokes, o wait-not everyone carries that around 24-sev)? Ha Ha oh my dear

It's coming.....

I was going to post this closer to the date but I couldn't help myself. I have a lot of fond memories from the first one. Hopefully Venice and I won't get stopped by the Po-niners this time around... :)

furoche-mas in july

giving you guys the heads up. if you want to be involved send me a message. my birthday is on the 14th and my good friend chris's birthday is on the 16th. Backbooth(the bar/music venue we both work at) has given us the oppurtunity to throw a party in celebration. theres going to be free beer, bands, djs, art, food, photo portraits and a race that starts around 11pm at backbooth and goes through out the downtown grid. the race will end at backbooth as well for all the podiums, prizes, goodies yada yada yada.

if you guys are familiar with the furoche crew they as well as i, will be helping throw this event to make sure its awesome... from what i hear it sounds like alott of people are going to be coming out to this so i would love for all of florida to try and come out. i could use some(but not limited) sponsers to go along with the ones that im gathering together now.

there will be donated bike racks to make sure everyones shit is secure right out front of the venue.

its a tuesday which i know is random for a party and a race but whats stopping you? a night of fun filled adventure and suprises.

plus if you guys have ever ridden, partied, stayed, or even just hung out with us im sure you realize how much fun this is going to be.

so like i said, if you want to sponser this, have your band play, or show arts or even bake cookies and cupcakes id be more than happy to have you there.
