Critical Mass 5-30-08

it's that time again peeps, end of the month and time to get our ride on. Meet up is at the usual place (Loch Haven Park) with the end point being Retro City Cycles again. As usual the folks at Retro are providing a keg for refreshment purposes but if you're under 21, don't bother getting in line this month. I'm told there will be someone checking ID's this time for the obvious reasons (I hear Rapevan, slayer of corp branding giants will be manning the ID line today). Sucks for the peeps under the drinking age (never really understood how it's ok to die for your country in a foreign war at 18 but damn you for wanting to indulge in a state sanctioned vice before you turn 21) but the law is the law kids...

enough talk....

I'm going for a ride this afternoon, trick oriented... If you're interested in meeting up, hit me on the tbm hotline or post a comment to this post. I'm leaving my house around 5:30 and the first spot I'm hitting is the Howard Middle School basketball court....

Saturday Afternoon crafts hour...

Yesterday afternoon was kind of shitty out so instead of trying to dodge showers while riding around, I opted to finally get to work on a project I had been neglecting. Here is the result of my time with some glue and scissors...

click on the image to see the flickr photset

The name of the munny is [S]hellshock Munny and this is the first of a series of munnys I am making for a munny / dunny silent auction I will be participating in. The design is based of an 11x17 poster I designed about a year ago called [S]hellshock. The concept of the poster deals with the issue of post traumatic stress disorder returning troops have had to deal with since the wars began. I wanted to illustrate the demands and mental damage that is occurring as a result of these deployments....

Original Poster

What I essentially did was print out the poster and with scissors and mod podge, I cut it up and glued the pieces on to the Munny until I made this little dude. As I mentioned, this is the first of the a series I am doing based on some of the different posters I make and since it's memorial day weekend, I chose to start with this one. I'm trying to get a total of 5 done for the silent auction but being realistic it will probably be 3. Let me know what you guys think...

A few pictures from Grandma Party Bazaar

a view of the never ending raffle from Kyle's tent....

As usual a lot of fun was had and big kudos to Casey and her crew of organizers as well as all the local shops and artist/musicians that where involved. Not only is this a great platform for the showcasing of goods & services provided by the local businesses /artists in the area but it's also a great vehicle to support said local economy. Plus, it's always fun getting faded in the heat whilst watching Metha scarf down multiple carrot dogs... :)

for those of us that opted to be "little bitches".....

maybe it's because you had to work this weekend, don't have the flow for gas or perhaps maybe you just couldn't get yourself to drive two hours in order to ride your bike in an environment full of geriatric drivers with big ass cars. Whatever the case maybe, you couldn't make it down to Sarasota to race this alley cat. No need to fret, there's a couple of things going on this weekend where you can still get your bike on....

Today @ 1:00pm a bunch of peeps are meeting up at Loch Haven Park (meet up point for Critical Mass) for the Fuck Florida Music Festival Fun Ride. Ride leaves at 1:30pm and will end at in College Park. I don't have specifics on the route but from what I'm told the end point will be a house party with a free keg and live music. The band line up is as follows:

Dj Diddles
S.K.I.P.
Mumpsy
Tres Bien
Virgins
Monikers
Gatorface
Swirling Bees
Slippery Slope
Max Green
Strangers

Ride leaves at 1:30 pm so don't be late!

On Sunday we have Grandma Party Bazaar during the day at Stardust parking lot. Later on that night there's a party at the warehouse (630 W Central & Parramore) which I hear is in support of a local bike Coop that is in the works. Don't know much about the Vegan House Shows but from what I hear there are quite a few bands scheduled to play. I hear Adrien is one of the organizers so ask him what's the 411 when you see him...

TBMs note: 5-18-08 I heard last night that this is really a screening of Pee Wee Big Adventure? If anyone knows what's up, hit us up in the comments section....

Artist JK5 has a few pieces up @ City Arts in support of a exhibition for the Florida Music Festival. The showing starts tonight and runs for a week I believe. Also, the Grandma Party Bazaar is taking place on Sunday in the Stardust parking lot. All sorts of original wares showcased by local artists up for sale in addtion to always being a lot of fun...

I think I'm in love....

click the image to go to the first shot of the sequence. Here's the link to the Bicycle Fetish Day 08 photoset.

BTW, I heard some info about a 2 hours ride planned for Saturday, starting at Loch Haven and ending in somewhere in College Park. Nick called it the Fuck Florida Music Festival ride and the end point will consist of a venue with bands and brews. I'll post specifics once I get some more info from El Mandino. Also, word on the street is that a a couple of races are in the works for June/July (one of them being the 2nd Orlando Rat Race) so keep your ears to the ground peeps!

InFUCKINGcredible!!!!

My favorite part is when the announcer says that the Orlando critical mass is a joke and the bike tower can hold more bikes than there are riders in the mass. So we gotta get more people out there. Spread the word!!!
