For certain... for every disrespectful driver there's a disrespectful cyclist. Stop riding on the wrong side of the road/against traffic, stop running red lights, stop riding on the sidewalk. In most states bicycles follow the same laws as motorized transit.
This statement is a good first step, but only one in many that need to be taken.
you know its almost kind of funny how CM seems to go down in Orlando. First you have your group who take the ride as an opportunity to show the rest of us just how fast they can go. Then you have your stragglers in the back who are plodding along, some of them drinking beer as they bring up the rear of the mass. End result? Big ass holes up and down the street putting corkers and the mass in general at risk from cars who squeeze through the holes. This little flier does a great job of illustrating this point...
i totally agree with the anonymous post. it's hard to call out drivers for acting carelessly or recklessly when there are plenty of cyclists here acting the same way and making us all look bad.
(and come on gus.. the people up front aren't necessarily trying to show off. sometimes they're just trying not to fall over. 1.5 mph on a fixed gear is a little difficult..) ;)
I agree with tbm, if I'm in the back I sometimes sprint up front to cork the next intersection that way it's not always the same people doing it over and over again.

I dunno Kate, some of the "speedsters" up front setting the pace need to realize that there are people in cruisers and other kinds of bikes in the mass as well. While I agree the stragglers are a huge part of the problem, the people up front need to realize this isn't an alley cat race either... :)
mooj: forgot to make an exception for corkers. I know I appreciate when people help out like this and so do many others. I actually got told to slow it down when I sprinted to help cork last mass. Cant catch a break...
gah! why aren't my comments working? not that i have much to say but... i don't think leading at 5 mph constitutes the name speedster.. but i forgot to mention the other reasons i don't like hanging back in the mass- claustrophobia and a distaste for standing in line at a keg. but next time i'll ride my gold flaked death cruiser- the one with the cup holder and the record of illogical injuries- and cruise slowly. just for you, gus! :)

True that.

does anyone know where this halloween mass ends? i heard something about a graveyard or is it stardust?
5mph? exaggerate much katie? :)
CM ends at stardust this month where they, along with bold hype, are throwing a big ass Halloween party.
i always found that it was easier to maintain a slow speed without falling over on a fixed gear.
hell i can even go 0mph without falling off my bike :)
wow this is so funny. show off our PBR!!! ahahahaha
