We rolled about 8 deep and really turned this shit out! My hands where tingly and I had the whole runners high thing when we finally stopped. No average speed as no one really had a cornputer on their bike last night but if I had to guess conservatively it was about 18 mph. The route we took was basically the first part of the after easter race; with the start point being Stardust, weaving thru baldwin park then hitting lakemont, left @ aloma thru winter park down orange towards the hospital, right @ princeton, left at edgewater riding thru college park, left at lakeshore and then hitting the north end of orange ave with the end point being BBQ... Good fast ride for damn sure!
Best part of the night, hearing hugs story about jocking for position on Aloma with a car. Hugs came out of it with a bump on his hand but dudes mirror I heard took a beating! LOL
we'll be out next week for sure. we split at 8:30 from stardust....

next week I can finally come out, I've had class tuesday nights.
how many miles is the total ride?
Last nights ride was just under 12 miles. At the minimum we do 10 and some nights we have been known to do the 15 mile route. Just sort of depends on which route we take.
One of the main things to keep in mind about the hustle is building up the stamina to keep a fast pace going the entire ride. Again I'm guessing our average pace was 18mph based on how fast we did the route in comparison to other rides we took where we did have a bike computer. this does not include peak speed on certain sections (such as the Aloma S-curve) where we have been known to hit speeds in the 35 mph range. I know since I have been doing this my pace and stamina has dramatically improved making it easier for me to hang with the faster group at races.
Last thing to keep in mind about the hustles, there is no shame in falling out from the main pack. This is all about finishing the route as best you can. If you can keep the pace the entire time, rock on! If not, finish it at the best pace you can. The end point is always the same so you will know where to meet up. This is all about pushing yourself as hard as you can for as long as you can..
Hope to see some of you guys out next week!
ez!
I'm hoping to make it next Tuesday.
sucks that you got scraped man. i got hit by a trailer this morning. just put my new bike together last night, went for the morning ride and a lawn care trailer scraped my hand. ridiculous.
I probably won't be able to keep up...but I haven't ridden in a long time, so ill be playing catch up most likely. hah.
Word I'll be out next tuesday as well. Classes are over wooo!!
What would be a good ratio for the sprints?
right now my ratio is 46-14t (which is way to easy), would a 46-16t work?
tora - stick with the 46-14t and you will be fine. I ride a 45-14 on these rides and don't top out unless we're bombing a hill really fast...
And these are not really sprints but rather distance riding at a fast pace... Again, the distance is usually about 10-13 miles..
