Another example of... the more I learn the more I figure out I have no idea.
These things seem pretty sweet, so that was enough incentive for me to go do some research. There were some things I couldn't find the answers to.
1. People were talking about putting a 650c tire on a 700c fork and that it might not work... how would there be a problem when the 650c tire is smaller?
2. It seems the main advantage to 650c tires is that it allows for bar spins (where the 700c is too large). You know of any other advantages?
3. Do people ever combine - 650c on front and 700c on back? Is there a noticeable difference? Will it make the rider lean forward?
4. The listing says that there's no axle... That is just an inexpensive threaded piece that goes through the center of the hubs (as in the link to the pic below), right?

I'm sure by the time I figure all this out, the wheels will be sold, but I'd still like to learn.

1,2,3. The 650 will fit onto pretty much any 700 fork. I think the reason they say that it won't work is because if you have a front brake, the brakes will not line up on the rim. It also changes the geometry of the bike. Mostly pursuit bikes come with the 650 front and 700 rear combo. But their geometry is set up to accept the new stance. The reason for this is for a lower more aerodynamic position and a more aggressive/sharper steering capability. What will happen on your bike that is set up for 700 front and rear is that, the fork rake relative to the ground and handle bars will decrease, which gives you the better steering capabilities (along with the smaller wheel); however, this also increases your chances for steering lock out. Steering lock out is not a problem when you are using a bike for what it is meant for, but when you start using it for things like foot down, track stands, and tricks, then your chances of getting locked up increases. You could break a clavicle.
There are many other things that change slightly as well. Your sit position changes, you are more forwards on the bike. So now your knees are a bit forward at 90 degrees (just move the seat back), but that does not change the seat tube angle because that is now more (more measured angle but less over your rear axle.)
Your bottom bracket is closer to the ground, therefore you cranks will be too.
You will feel bumps slightly more.
You will not be able to run over as many things. Theory says that you should be able to run over anything lower than you axle. But we know that is not true because it also depends on your position on the bike and speed.
You will be able to do bar spins!!!
Therefore you will be awesome!!!
You will have more video footage of yourself.
You will have more photos of...yourself!!!
Therefore you will have better myspace photos!!!
Leading to increased chances of meeting hot girls!!!
The choice is simple 650's are rad, they will make you more popular and the pro's obviously out way the cons. And these changes in the geometry are really small, you probably will not even notice them after a couple of days. And what makes sense about riding a track bike on the street anyways?
4. I did not look at the wheels for sale, but if all you need is and axle that picture you linked is pretty much right. Except the fact that the axle you have pictured is for a loose ball bearing hub. I'm pretty sure most spinergys are cartrige bearings. Also make sure that it does have some kinda hub. Because i have seen these sold with out anything in side to space out the carbon fiber. And check the size axle 10mm or 8mm and length.
Hopes this helps i gotta run!!! Rolex 24 BITCHES!!!!!
thanks for the info... It was real helpful. i think I'm gonna do it and pray for no more broken collarbones.
