Hot off the wire!
Spoke to Nick tonight and he wanted me to pass along some info regarding this weekend:
Critical Mass
This months ride is leaving just a bit later with a different ending point. Meet up has been pushed back to 5:00pm with the ride leaving Loch Haven Park around 5:45-6pm. This months ride is going to be just a bit longer with the end point being Glory Cycles on Virginia Dr. There is an after party planned for after the ride in the parking lot with BBQ for both the veggie and the carnivore crowd as well as some kegs. Donations will be accepted to cover the cost of the kegs so if you plan on partaking throw in a buck or two or three... He said they may have a few t-shirts for sale so hit him up if you're interested.
Florida Flurry
Registration starts at 2pm @ Ethos Vegan Kitchen with the race starting @ 4pm. Manifests will be given out right before the race starts. Everyone who enters the race will receive a t-shirt along with a few other goodies with the price of admission. Volunteers are still needed to help work the check points so anyone interested in helping out, contact Nick @ 407-962-8673. The prizes are looking sweet and if you participated in the first rat race, you know what a blast this thing is going to be! There's an after party planned for the parking lot of Beta / Covert / Etoile Botique which will be catered by Black Bean Deli. Again donations for the keg will be gladly accepted so turn out yo pockets chumps!
Sunday Bike Day Swap Meet
Several local bike shops will be present so this is a great time to come on by and get a tune up. I know of a few people who have either frames or bikes for sale so if you're looking for something bike related, you're going to want to stop by. Things start around 11am and theres plans for races, sprints and all other kinds of shenanigans. Interested bands who would like play and volunteers who would be interested in teaching bike maintenance workshops, contact Adrien via his myspace page.
Thats about it, see you all at CM...

Black Cat Hustle 11-27 recap....
A few of the regulars couldn't make it but a couple of new faces did... We actually had our first female participant last night and even though she fell behind a few times, she hung in there until the very end. Go on Melissa!
The route was the shortest so far (9.5 miles) and quite a bit slower than the previous two but a few of us are racing Saturday so no reason to blow the ol' knees out. We hit the end point right before it started raining therefore avoiding getting soaked. Got a little swerved @ the bar and then headed home in the Seattle-esque drizzle, freezin' my ass off the whole way...
Some of last nights highlights:
- The moped pimps in the Stardust parking lot
- Hugh leading the hustle
- Skidding for no real good reason
- Kevin almost getting swiped at the 408 overpass
- haulin' ass on the back roads south of the 408
- the old people crossing signs
- metha taking one mean ass spill on the ride home
Respect to the crew, see ya on Thursday...

Black Cat Hustle 11-20 recap....
You missed the fuck out! How is that for a recap?
Seriously though, a good time was had by all last night.. We had a couple more people join us this week for the ride and the tom foolery afterwards @ BBQ Bar. Some of the stats from last night consisted of an average speed of 18 (up 1 mph from last week) with a peak of 29 mph. The ride was a bit shorter this time around clocking in at 11 miles but we had no stops this time and rode straight through. The route was pretty much the same except for not taking the treacherous dark path around Lake Baldwin. Some of the evenings highlights consisted of:
-- Kevin frontin' like he's slow and then leading the pack all night long...
-- All of us blasting past a roadie on a geared bike in Baldwin Park. Homeboy was tripping at our pace. His coal miner headlight owned us all though
-- Me almost rubbin' handle bars with a seasoned citizen in a crown vic on Aloma Ave. We all agree this is the craziest but dopest part of the ride..
-- Blasting through the light at Orange Ave and Fairbanks and hearing one driver yell "Jeezus Krist" as well all zoomed by. He seemed freaked out by people haulin' ass on bikes.
-- Justin bunny hopping the railroad tracks on Virginia..
-- and last but not least, watching homeboy at BBQ Bar riding laps through the bar. I beleive he did a total of 12 but I had a few brews so I'm probably way off.
Massive respect to the usual suspects who rode and the new faces that joined us this time around. This is one once again going down next week so those of you on the fence, get in on the hustle!

Interesting concept @ play in Berkley.. This goes far beyond creating a "bike lane" on token busy streets.

Krikey my legs are tired.....

Hustlin!
Man it was hectic but it was fun! 8 brave souls showed up for the hustle through O-town and Winter Park last night and lets just say there was no slacking.. At one point, Methas bike computer registered a top speed of 33 mph! Yes folks, we were hustlin'...
The inaugural route encompassed parts of Audubon Park, Baldwin Park, Winter Park (Brick Roads suck), The Florida Hospital Area with the route then taking a bit of the monthly CM route and finishing off downtown @ Bar B Q Bar. The total route came out to be about 15 miles which was done in an hour with an average speed of about 17mph (Metha please correct me if I'm wrong with the stats). Total time included a 5 minute pit stop in Winter Park in the middle of the run (killer view of a lake with killer mosquitoes to match). I have to admit, at one point I felt like I was hitting the wall but not wanting to bitch out, I dug in deep and just kept peddlin' hard. It's amazing what adrenalin and force of will can accomplish. One of the best parts of the night came at the end.. We had a couple of rider hung up at a light and Teddy yelled at Metha to slow it down.. Well Metha thought he said "all out" and the next thing we know, Metha's haulin ass down Orange Ave! Other highlights consisted of Patrick almost getting side swiped by a BMW on Park Ave and all of us almost getting run over by a douche bag in a pick up truck on 17/92. Gotta love Orlando drivers...
Big shout out to those that ran the virgin run! Patrick, Metha, Nick, Hugh, Justin, Teddy and Andrew, it was an absolute pleasure riding with you guys last night and here's to many more miles and PBR's on Tuesday nights.. Maybe next time we might have some energy left over to get in to a foot down / skid session.. ;)
BTW, this is on next week like mutha funkin calgon! Lets see if we can get some more people out there this time..

Word on the street? The Black Cat Hustle is going down!
Inspired by the Wolf Pack Hustle in LA and the Rat City Hustle in NYC, Orlando is getting in on the action as well.. Starting this week, the newly created Black Cat Hustle will be kicking off with Stardust being the designated met up point for the ride. Taking a cue from other rides of this nature, this will be a longer ride for intermediate to experienced riders. The ride is open to all bikes but we hope to see a strong fixed gear showing for the virgin ride. Again, the met up point is @ Stardust Coffee & Video @ 7pm with the route to be determined before we head out. I'm sure we will be breaking for some brews afterwards.. A flier is being made and will be posted once it's sorted out.. For more info, contact the usual suspects (Nick or Metha) or keep it locked on this channel for further developments.
For more information on the Wolf Pack Hustle, check out their site or check out the earlier post on 407fixedgear.com. There is a link to the Current TV pod in the article as well..

Other info hitting the streets....
Ran in to Kevin, Metha and Nick yesterday whilst they where planning the race. While I have no valuable check point intel to report, they did allude to the theme of the race as well as some of the other events being coordinated for the weekend. For starters, there is talk of the MASH DVD premiere being held the Thursday before The Orlando Bicycle Weekend. The shoe pimps @ Beta are planning this little shindig with the venue yet to be announced. If it goes down, this will be a bangin' way to start off a hectic ass weekend!
Other things they were willing to reveal consisted of the theme of the race. It's called the Florida Flurry so expect ice related themes to make an appearance. Nick mentioned something about "interactive check points" so I'm expecting a fair amount of hijinks during the race. They also mentioned they are in need of volunteers to staff the check points.. Anyone interested in helping out in this manner contact Nick or Metha or hit the Orlando Critical Mass or the Orlando Rat Race myspace pages...
Man this is shaping up to be one hell of a weekend! In addition to all the events, there are also lots of after parties planned the entire weekend so expect the shenanigan threat level to be in the red all weekend long.. Things are looking up in the 407 with lots of events, make sure you support and show your appreciation.
'nuff out of me... Go ride!

Bike Art
Found this on trackosaurus rex, seems like an interesting project even though aesthetics seems to be the main focus as opposed to functionality..
Bike Art and Fixated Design
Off the site
Based in Toronto, 'Fixated' is an international collective of designers, artists, and skilled fabricators. Drawing from both European and North American design ideologies 'Fixated' are a very exciting group who take a fresh approach to the modern aesthetic and subsequently occupy a unique position in their field. High Park Cycles have been in business in Toronto for over 35 years and is one of the most successful and celebrated independent bicycle stores in the country. In addition to the day to day business of the trade, ‘High Park’ has been actively involved in the world of competitive cycling and has produced 17 provincial and 4 national champions to date. Subsequently this collaboration combines an electrifying blend of modern design and classic engineering.
